Trace of World War II in Auschwitz, Poland, a site which is already listed in World Heritage back in 1979.

Auschwitz is the area where various concentration, labor and extermination camps were located during World War II by the Germans. Auschwitz is situated outside the town of Oswiecim in southern Poland and is around 60km away from Krakow.

The huge concentration of camps as well as being the first ever camps built by the Germans, Auschwitz is often seen as the symbol of terror and the place for survivors and their families to remember the Holocaust.

To Get There

From Krakow, you can take buses or mini-buses from the main bus station to Auschwitz. The journey is around 1.5 hours. Many guided tour from Krakow to Auschwitz is also available. Usually hotels or tourist center can provide you more details.

Trains also reach the nearby town- Oswiecim, where you can either catch a bus from Oswiecim train station to Auschwitz, or walk there along signs (approximately 1km away).

Auschwitz I Entrance - Auschwitz - Poland

Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum

Auschwitz was the site of the biggest mass murder in history. At the end of World War II, the Germans had tried to destroy the site and documents. The remaining artifacts on the site were liberated by Red Army soldiers in 1945. With the act of the post-war Polish Parliament, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum was founded on the ground of the 2 extant parts of the camp, Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau.

Auschwitz I

Inside this first used camp you would find photos, documents and personal belongings displayed, showing you the life inside the camp back in the dark days. The only remaining gas chamber located there is reconstructed after the war to replicate the same layout during wartime.

Auschwitz-Birkenau

It is the second camp, which is huge, and to complete the whole camp would take up several hours. Birkenau is 3km away from Auschwitz I. Between the 2 camps is a shuttle bus running every half hour for free.

Aushwitz I Gas Chamber Memorial- Poland

In the camp you will find railway track, ramp, old barracks, the ruins of 5 gas chambers, ponds where the ashes of people were dumped and memorial site.

    i feel sorry for all the jews that have died in the gaschamber if i was a jew i would die for my family im just saying
