If you are looking for a colorful Spring break, the Netherlands is definitely one of the top choices!

Every year around late March to early May is the best timing to visit the Netherlands. You can avoid the winter coldness and at the same time, flowers are opened everywhere.

Keukenhof

The must visit during this period is Keukenhof, also known as the Garden of Europe. In fact, it is the world’s largest outdoor flower garden. Approximately 7 million different hybrids of flowers are plant there. The park is located close to a small town called Lisse. Buses are available from Schiphol airport and Haarlem train station.

Some other FREE options

1. Bollenstreek

 Besides getting into Keukenhof itself, you can also wander around the tulip fields in Bollenstreek area. “Bollenstreek” literally means ‘Bulb region’ in Dutch. It covers Lisse, Hillegom, Leiden and some other nearby villages. You can reach these towns by direct trains or buses from Schiphol airport. You will be amazed by the dynamic of the colorful flower fields everywhere.

2. Bloemencorso – Flower Parade 2010 

Bloemencorso takes place every year in Bollenstreek area. On 24 April this year, the annual Flower Parade will leave Noordwijk at 9:30 am, passing Keukenhof and travel 40km all the way long to Haarlem, arriving at around 9:00pm. The fully decorated paraded cars will be displayed in Haarlem until 25 April.

There are different themes each year, and the theme this year is ‘Journey through Europe’. Prizes are available each year for the best decorated cars. Marching bands will go along side the parade across towns to entertain!
