An old and lovely Swedish city located in south central Sweden is the city of Uppsala.

Uppsala is a university city in the Uppland province of Sweden, which owns 2 universities and is at the same time the 4th largest city in Sweden. Architectures in Uppsala and lovely and most of it are well preserved. You can easily feel the vibe of the city with young people around.

Uppsala Cathedral

Uppsala Cathedral, also known as the Domkyrkan, is Scandinavia’s largest cathedral which was constructed in the 1200s. It is the focal point of the city and has been used as the burial site of many of the Swedish Royal family as well as the seat of the Church of Sweden.

You can get to the Uppsala Cathedral from the city center or train station and walk across the river. You should be able to see the Cathedral from far distance already. 

Uppsala University

Established in 1477, this oldest university in Scandinavia is a must-see in the city of Uppsala. It owns many of the old architectures in Sweden and mostly is still used for lectures and other uses until today. The Uppsala University library, called the ‘Carolina Rediviva’, has over 5 million volumes collections, including the ‘Silver Bible’ from the 6th century.

 The University Museum, the “Gustavianum Museum” right opposite to the main building, is an old anatomical theater built in the 17th century. You will find a showcase of Egyptian and historical scientific artifacts.

Other attractions in Uppsala include the Uppsala Castle, the Botanical Gardens and the Old Uppsala area called Gamla Uppsala, which comprises of pre-Viking and pre-historic burial mounds.

To get to Uppsala by flight, you can make use of the Arlanda international airport, and get connection bus, train or car to Uppsala.

If you are already travelling in Sweden or other European countries, getting to Uppsala by train is one of the most convenient ways. Trains connect Uppsala with Stockholm and other major cities in Europe. Buses also run from Stockholm, Gothenburg and other cities in Sweden to Uppsala.
