Genoa – the Historical Port of North Italy

Genoa (known as Genova in Italian), is the historical port of North Italy, as well as the capital of the Liguria region. Once the busiest city port in Italy and Mediterranean, Genoa today has become a tourist spot for people to trace its long and rich history as a trading center.

Although not as famous as other tourist cities in Italy like Rome or Venice, Genoa is a beautiful ancient port which still owns the old alleyways, pastel-colored terracotta-roofed houses, seaside villas and old churches.

To see Genoa, best place is to begin with the heart of the old city, which includes the area of Piazza Acquaverde for Stazione di Piazza Principe, Piazza della Nunziata, Largo Zecca, Piazza Corvetto, Piazza Caricamento and Caruggi. Note that best way to get through the city is to stroll down the lovely old streets and alleys on foot. Buses are available, but do not rely on the timetable as well as the stops so much.
