Düsseldorf, More Than a Business City
When talking about travelling in Germany, you might have Frankfurt, Berlin or Hamburg, these kind of main bigger cities popping up in your head. However in such a big piece of land, there is 1 city that you should not miss – Düsseldorf.
Very often being identify as a business city, it can only be half true. Düsseldorf can be a wonderful place for a long weekend escape.
5 must-sees in Düsseldorf:
1. Altstadt (old town)
Old town is a very lively part of the city. Many museums are located in old town. The whole area of old town is relatively small and can be reach by feet. You would not be too tired from walking as you would be able to find Starbucks or other local café every 200 meters. There are a huge amount of shops ranging from H&M to Chanel. Main shopping streets are Königsallee & Schadowstraße. Shops are mostly open until 18:30 (Monday-Saturday) and until 20:00 on Thursdays.

2. Rhine Promenade
Just adjacent to the old town is the Rhine Promenade. The open area along Rhine attracts many locals to cycle, skate or stroll there. Along the promenade are various café and restaurants for you to sit down and enjoy the view.
3. Memorial Museum (Mahn- und Gedenkstätte Düsseldorf)
It is a very small museum in the old town and not widely promoted. However, it´s a very impressive one. There exhibits the historical evidence when Dusseldorf is being invaded. Exhibition is in German, but staffs do speak some English. The chamber where Jewish hide in Dusseldorf is now turned into part of the museum.
4. Japanese Culture
More than 7,000 Japanese live in Düsseldorf. Look for Immermannstraße and you´ll notice how many Japanese restaurants are there. These restaurants provide high quality Japanese food with reasonable price, compare to other parts of Germany and the nearby countries.
5. Modern Art Museums – K20 Kunstsammlung & K21 Kunstsammlung
These museums are not only for art fans, but also for anybody who just want to see the architecture of the museum building itself. If you’re not interested in the exhibitions, just take a coffee in the café to feel the modern art breeze.
